Alexandra

Alexandra is a neat winery that seems to transport you directly to Provence with its stone walls, wooden shutters and lush lavender in the courtyard. The village of Sredno Gradishte in the Chirpan Hills, where the winery is located, is already famous for the fragrant Lavender Festival.

The owner Svetlana Slavova introduces us to the magical world of her kvevri dug into the ground – clay vessels that have been used in Georgia for eight millennia to produce wine, and the method is on the list of UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage. The vats here are shaped like clay eggs of 2.5 tons each, and the wine made in them is very different and interesting.

Svetlana also experimented with wine matured in concrete eggs, which are technologically very good for the fermentation of white wines, especially Chardonnay.
